Point5 Behaviour: Connection Time (promoting positive relationships)

Relationships are key when supporting or working with children - Connection Time is a simple strategy aimed at building these relational connections with children who find it difficult to form relationships with adults or with whom you are finding it difficult to ‘connect’ positively. This resource sets out the principles behind this important work; the practical implications; suggests ideas and provides a printable bank of connection starters, along with a blank set for customising for your own needs. We have used this strategy successfully ourselves many times and worked with adults who have used it - feedback is always positive and we have witnessed the positive outcomes in improved relation connections and improved behaviour as a result.

Point5 Behaviour: The sticky label method (promoting positive behaviour)

(0)
This method aims to notice and immediately acknowledge a targeted positive behaviour; it works best with younger children who like to proudly display stickers on their jumpers. The aim is to notice the child for all the times when they are achieving their target. This method is about tipping the balance so the child learns to gain attention through other more positive behaviours. We call this the sticky label method. We have used this method countless times and feedback from staff (and children) we have shared the idea with, in numerous settings, has always been hugely positive.
