In this engaging lesson, students develop their understanding of Sikhism through learning about the ten human gurus.
The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey:
-Recalling key information about the life and beliefs of Guru Nanak;
-Researching the nine subsequent Sikh Gurus, using a structured template;
-Sharing their findings with their classmates;
-Considering the key messages communicated by each of the Sikh gurus and justifying which they feel are the most important;
-Completing a creative task in which they make a Sikh Guru timeline;
-Self-reflecting on the extent to which they feel they have met the learning objectives.
This resource pack includes the comprehensive PowerPoint presentation (17 slides) and the research template. There is everything that you need here to teach the lesson.
In the past, I have used this lesson with children from across Key Stage 2 - (predominantly upper KS2) the key learning is aligned with curriculum expectations for RE, and also the content prescribed by most diocese regions.
A Religion and Human Rights Unit lasting 6 hours that was created for Year 9 RE, but could easily be used for a capable Year 8 or none-GCSE KS4 group.
Each lesson is very detailed, editable and differentiated three ways with colour-coded challenge tasks for every activity. The lessons are very easy to follow as all the instructions are on the PowerPoints and worksheets. Each of the individual lessons have had excellent reviews so far.
The unit includes:
Religion and Community Cohesion - A fully-resourced, detailed and differentiated lesson which serves as an introduction to religious attitudes towards community cohesion, immigration and human rights.
Religion, Gender and LGBT+ A fully-resourced, detailed and differentiated lesson which serves as an introduction to religion, gender and human rights issues. The lesson explores traditional male and female roles in Christianity and Islam as well as present day issues and conflicts. Clashes with the LGBT+ community are also explored and how some religious organisations are reaching out in support.
Religion and Freedom of Expression - A fully-resourced, detailed and differentiated lesson which serves as an introduction to religion, freedom of expression and human rights issues. The lesson explores present day global issues and conflicts, whilst analysing scripture and recent court cases. The focus is on Christianity and Islam, from clothing and burkinis to LGBT+ cakes and freedom of speech.
Religion and Social Justice - A fully-resourced, detailed and differentiated lesson which serves as an introduction to religious attitudes towards social justice.

This 5 week unit of work enables the children to explore the idea about trying to transform the world. It explores what a better world would be like while gathering ideas about some of the problems it has.
The following objectives are covered over the 6 weeks:
Make sense of belief:
• Explain connections between biblical texts and the concept of
the kingdom of God
• Consider different possible meanings for the biblical texts
studied, showing awareness of different interpretations
Understand the impact:
• Make clear connections between belief in the kingdom of God
and how Christians put their beliefs into practice
• Show how Christians put their beliefs into practice in
different ways
Make connections:
• Relate the Christian ‘kingdom of God’ model (i.e. loving others,
serving the needy) to issues, problems and opportunities in the
world today
• Articulate their own responses to the idea of the importance
of love and service in the world today.
All resources are listed here and are referenced in the lesson plans. A great unit that provokes some thoughtful and philosophical discussions.
Please note: this unit of work could easily be extended to 6 weeks as there are opportunities for the children to present and share their work with their peers.

A comprehensive Powerpoint for teaching the Lower Key Stage 2 Unit 2A.3 topic of 'Incarnation / God - What is the Trinity?
It starts by looking at the BIG Frieze by the artist Emma Yarlett before following the Understanding Christianity unit 2A.3 planning document.
The teaching and learning slides are divided up into three parts: Making sense of the text; Understanding the impact; and Making connections.
Slides are animated and include teacher questions at various points to encourage class discussion.
A Medical Ethics Unit lasting 12 hours (one lesson is a double) that was created for Year 9 RE, but could easily be used for a capable Year 8 or none-GCSE KS4 group.

What are the religious and ethical views on euthanasia? A lesson examining the quality vs sanctity of life debate in detail while examining types of euthanasia and religious views on these.
Stem Cell Research - an investigation into embryology and the controversial issues surrounding the science. The lesson investigates how scripture can be applied to these issues and why there is so much debate.
Capital Punishment and The Death Penalty - a two hour lesson which focuses on capital punishment, its legal status around the world, the moral and religious arguments for and against and the history of the death penalty.
Drugs and morality - a lesson exploring the moral and religious debate around drug use before examining religious quotes and practicing GCSE style exam questions.
Genetic Engineering - an overview lesson on test tube and designer babies as well as religious objections to the technology, with a focus on Christianity and Islam.
An detailed article with differentiated comprehension questions all about the ethics, morality and faux-science of the anti-vaxxer movement.
