Back to School - a fun activity for primary classrooms. This Recipe for a Great School Year activity pack (including full lesson Powerpoint and all templates) makes a fun welcome project for a new class and creates a classroom display to put up for the new school year. Updated for Back to School 2019. A super first week back/getting to know you activity! The aim of this fun activity is to help your new class think about what will make the next school year a successful one. 5 great math-focused back to school activities for getting to know your students, and for them to get to know each other! Math Scavenger Hunt- hunt for students who know the answers to middle school math questions (answer key is included so that you can go over the math facts when the time runs out). Partner Interviews- a great way for students to get to know each other. I have students choose 2 or 3 interesting things they learned about their partners and have them introduce the other person to the class. 60 Second Challenge- fun challenges that students do in pairs! Have one student help by timing and counting, while the other student completes the challenge and vice versa. My Mathography- student choose numbers that best describe them and make illustrations about these numbers to create a numbers autobiography page. Numbers in the Room- students search for others with specific numbers (like the same birth month) in the room to get to know each other.

‘A Ball About Me’, is a fun, first week back to school, all about me creative art activity. This football template invites students to respond to prompts in a personal, way using doodles and graffiti style lettering. 16 Instructions/prompts on the ball template include: Name, Age, Self Portrait, Favourite Song, Food, Book, Sport and Colour Activities: Colour this, take a line for a walk, draw circles, squares, triangles, lines. This resource also includes the following: ‘A Ball About Me’ garland for students to decorate and display. With 2 letters per page, this will make a large welcoming banner for the new classroom or bulletin board. For early finishers and relaxation time: Make a football bookmark Explore pattern, shape and colour with two additional abstract football doodle worksheets. Get to know your class with this no-prep, all about me activity. This foldable printable is ideal for back-to-school or for an ‘about me’ topic and is a fun alternative to a standard worksheet. Print the template on white paper. There are 4 designs to choose from, each with the same prompts (please note that the templates are not editable). Pupils will need coloured pencils, a pen and scissors. Firstly, pupils will colour the top and bottom of the template. They can then fill in the boxes with words and pictures.
