All About Me Back to School 'Art Phone' creative lesson

Engage children creatively with this Instagram style, 'tech' mobile phone/tablet 'All About Me' first week back, art and writing activity. Children can learn more about themselves and their peers and teachers can get to know more about their new classroom individuals in an imaginative way. This activity invites students to cut out and make their own fold out booklet style art-phone, and then to complete the image making on the front cover and the written elements inside. The front cover: Illustrate the 9 answers to prompts with thumbnail doodles or drawings, eg age, family, favourite movie, animal etc The 2 fold out inner pages: 1. 'Let's Chat', designed in a text message style, asks more investigative questions including, How will you achieve your goals? What support do you need? 2. 'More About Me': Includes, name your 3 goals, 5 fascinating facts Open ended questions to complete, such as 'I imagine...' 'People like me because...' Considerations, how to use this activity: How can students move beyond words, and 'draw their answers' Consider the space around the images you draw How do the 9 images look collectively? Is there an emerging theme or style or colour? What colours do we associate with words? eg carrot: orange and green Work imaginatively! The included example uses a black ball point pen and felt tips The completed art-phones slip comfortably into a back pocket. They will work well pegged up as a garland or can decorate a wall, door or bulletin board. All artwork is designed by me, and is vector based, so can be enlarged without pixelating. Create ‘A Ball About Me’, a fun, first week back to school creative activity. Students can explore what they like and get to learn more about each other. This is a helpful insight for the new teacher too. This football template encourages children to consider the instructions (listed below) and to illustrate their answers in a personal, imaginative way using doodles, mark making, graffiti style lettering and imagery. The colour example uses a black ball point pen and felt tips to create a modern, illustrative style to appeal to year 3’s and above. Invite students to consider the style of their favourite artist (eg Andy Warhol, Lichtenstein) or author (eg Liz Pichon who writes and illustrates the popular Tom Gates books) Instructions on the ball template include: Name Age Birthday Self Portrait Favourite song, food, book, sport and colour Doodles: Colour this, take a line for a walk, draw circles, squares, triangles, lines. This ‘T Shirt About Me’ art and writing activity, is a fun, first week back to school ice breaker for both boys and girls. It’s a really creative way for teachers and students to learn more about each other. Invite students to respond to 30 prompts and questions in a personal and imaginative way, using doodles, words, ‘graffiti style’ lettering and illustrations. **T shirt template 1: Art Activity ** There are 15 sections to illustrate responses to prompts, including: Self portrait, name, age, grade, favourite color, fruit, vegetable, sport, film, song… **T shirt template 2: Writing Activity ** There are 15 questions / prompts to respond to in written format, including: My top 3 goals this year, something I like at school, something I find challenging, if I were a superhero, I can make the world better by, I feel happy when, I feel sad when, I aim to, I wonder if… The T Shirt templates measure approximately 22 x 18cm / 8 x 7 inches and are designed to fit US Letter and A4 paper size for printing. All About Me Back to School Pop Art Box & Task Cards

This ‘Pop Art Box About Me’ art and getting to know you resource, is a fun, first week back to school ice breaker for both girls and boys. It is a really creative way for teachers and students to learn more about each other. Invite students to create a unique ‘All About Me Box’, following the template prompts using Pop Art style doodles and words. Box prompts include: Age, name, grade, self portrait, favorite colors, favorite fruit, my top goal, I love… Students can then fill their boxes with a selection of question cards and work in pairs or small groups to explore their learning goals, aspirations, likes and dislikes. 36 question cards are included, along with blanks for students to have some fun and invent their own questions and games, for example, ‘Would you rather…’ Another task is to make a ‘card to myself’ with a message or goal, or a kind note for a friend. For example, students can give these to their teacher to open at the end of the year. The coloured, finished example included features a girl’s face. However the actual face template has a ‘generic bald head’ so both boys and girls can create a self portrait from this outline. Classroom Decor includes Pop Art inspired garlands and posters to colour and display. There are doodle pages to keep early finishers occupied. UK/Aus/Can spelling options of favourite and colour are included in the templates. Boxes measure 2.6 x 2.6 x 2.6 inches / 6.6 x 6.6 x 6.6cm when finished. The entire box template is designed to fit one sheet of US Letter or A4 sized paper. A larger box template is also included if you have access to an 11x14 or A3 printer. The finished boxes make a fabulous display, on the bulletin board, pegged up on a line as a garland or suspended from the ceiling with clear thread. This pack contains 90 questions and prompts for End of Year, Back to School and All about Me group discussion & reflection activities in the classroom. The cards have been designed using a modern mobile phone-style template to appeal to this age group and give the activity a sense of fun and curiosity.
