(2)
A lesson all ready to go. The objective for pupils is to use their knowledge of equivalent fractions to develop an understanding of the links between percentages and decimals. Stater activity checks understanding of comparing two fractions through equivalent fractions. The first main part of the lesson uses knowledge of equivalent fractions to convert fractions to decimals and percentages by converting to an equivalent fraction out of 100. Pupils then learn to convert fractions to decimals and percentages through using short division, introducing recurring decimals. Pupils then practice applying their new knowledge to ordering a mixture of fractions, decimals and percentages. And finally pupils review their learning through Fractions decimals and percentages BINGO. Feedback Appreciated

Decimals

15 Resources
Includes: Extra 7 reasoning sheets The worksheets increase in challenge. The Foundation worksheet is aimed at those working towards age expected. The Core worksheet is aimed at those working at age expected. The Higher worksheet is aimed at those working at greater depth. Model making, drawing and writing decimal numbers, showing that the decimal point is used to separate whole numbers from decimals. Children look at a variety of representations of tenths as decimals, up to the value of 1 whole. This leads to adding the tenths column to a place value chart for children to see how tenths fit with the rest of the number system and to understand the need for the decimal point. Children may forget to include the decimal point. If the number of tenths reaches 10, children may call this “zero point ten” and write 0.10 rather than exchanging for 1 one. Children may confuse the words “tens” and “tenths”. Questions to help with understaning the topic: If a whole is divided into 10 equal parts, what is the value of each part? How can you represent the decimal How are decimals like fractions? using a model? How can you convert between tenths as fractions and tenths as decimals? How is 1/10 like 0.1? How is it different?

Year 6 Fractions, decimals and percentage game

(1)
This is a fraction, decimal and percentage game designed for Y6 - perfect for SATs revision. I found this game worked really well with my children in Year 6. Firstly, the game makes the children think they aren't doing maths (sneaky!) and their naturally competitive nature ensured for a brilliant outcome! Most importantly, as fractions, decimals and percentage work was combined together, the children really had to apply their knowledge. To play, children will need a dice and the question cards cut out in colour and put into piles. Children roll their dice and choose a corresponding card. Children work out the answer, checking it against the answer cards. They score points for correct answers.
