This powerpoint has been written for teaching with the WJEC Hospitality and Catering Course, however this could be taught with GCSE Food and Nutrition when discussing special diets.
The powerpoint links to Chapter 21 and Unit 2. It focuses on Nutrition and special diets. It will last a number of lessons.
The powerpoint starts with a set of recap questions about the eat well guide. You will need to insert a picture of the eat well guide. It then talks about allergies and intolerances - there are facts, think pair share tasks, tastings, practical ideas and computer investigations.
It then asks students to design a menu for a nursery and make links to dairy and gluten intolerances.
The students have a computer research task about Vegetarianism and Vegans. It has a practical idea linked to this.
It then has a homework task about religious dietary restrictions.
This can be taught without a textbook.
This resource can be edited and I hope that it saves you time.
I made a little booklet for a student in my ASD class who was making his first holy communion. Just insert photographs of your church and details of time and date. A social story about what you might expect when you go into your local church on the day you make your First Holy Communion. It covers when, where, going into the church, sitting in pews, listening, singing songs and going up for the Eucharist.
SOCIAL STORIES are valuable tools for teaching social interaction skills in an exacting way to people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. They are particularly effective for those individuals with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
Thanks.

The file included is an updated/new IEP template which is renamed ‘Pupil Learning Passport’. It is used successfully in conjunction with face-to-face parental meetings once per term. We allocated 20-25 minutes each for the Autumn term parental meetings and 10-15 minutes each for the Spring and Summer term meetings, although longer may be needed depending on the nature of the outcomes, progress made as well as the individual circumstances surrounding the pupil .
Pupil Learning Passports (PLPs) can be used for SEND, LAC and disadvantaged pupils.

Links to SEND ranges
Outlines the pupil’s strengths, achievements and interests ( pupil discussions are held once a year prior to the first parental meeting).
Outlines external agencies involved
Outlines background information (status, medical and external agencies)
Incorporates pupil voice - ‘barriers to learning’ and ‘I learn best when’
States outcomes and learning targets (Autumn, Spring and Summer)
Outlines provision (intervention, resources, strategies and what I can do at home to help
Tracks attainment and progress data
Reviews outcomes
Incorporates parent views
Includes details of transition
Why is it more effective?
One document that is updated each term for one year and the follows the pupil into future year groups
One document that tracks pupil progress for their whole school career from Reception to Y6, or whenever they join your school
In-line with the SEND Code of Practice 2015, incorporating parent and pupil voice and views
Sections are written in conjunction with the pupil
It combines IEPs and Pupil Passports removing the need for two separate documents
Links directly to SEND Provision Map
Saves teachers time having ‘tick box’ options in various sections
All relevant information needed for referrals is in one place
All relevant information in one place to ensure all staff involved with the child is aware of provision, needs, resources and strategies
Acts as a transition document (class to class/teacher to teacher, across Key stages and to new schools)

In this engaging lesson, students consider the places that are important to them. The lesson serves as a foundation for children’s later learning about places that are special to people of different faiths.
The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey:
-Discussing the differences between a house and a home;
-Considering what features make a home a special place to many people;
-Identifying the things that make their own homes a special place;
-Brainstorming other places that people may consider as special, e.g. their town or their school;
-Understanding that different people are individuals, and have their own opinions of places that are special;
-Completing a plenary activity to assess their understanding;
-Self-reflecting on the extent to which they feel they have met the learning objective.
This resource pack includes the comprehensive PowerPoint presentation (17 slides) and the template for the main special places activity (provided in Word and PDF). There is everything that you need here to teach the lesson.
In the past, I have used this lesson with children from across Key Stage 1 - the key learning is aligned with curriculum expectations for RE, and also the content prescribed by most diocese regions. All images are licensed for commercial use.
