This lesson is perfect to teach your Year 11 French about Black History Month. It’s also great to talk about role models in the new GCSE theme of Popular culture.
There is a lot packed in this resource!
It presents 3 French personalities and through their portraits, students will revise other GCSE topics:
-
Reading about Omar Sy’s career and volunteering with children’s charities: match up sentence halves.
-
Reading about Aissa Maïga’s career and the film she produces to raise awareness about global warming: fill the gaps in sentences.
-
Listening and vocab search about Christiane Taubira and her work on the law for same sex marriage. (listening track included on the slide and with the MP3 file but you can choose to read in your own voice)
-
Short quiz available in French and English depending on students’ ability.
All the exercises are followed by their answers so the lesson is ready to use.
I would recommend it more for Year 11 as it covers topics you might not have seen yet with Year 10, but if you want to stretch your Y10 while discussing Black History Month, then this it made for you!
This is a 1 hour lesson but you could easily break it into little chunks. Available in PDF and PPTX.
I hope this resource inspires your students to reflect on representation, resilience and the achievements of inspiring French figures.
