IB DP Physics lesson pack on acceleration and non-uniform motion, Topic A.1 Kinematics, SL and HL, first assessment 2025. Practises rate of change, SI unit conversion and drawing velocity and acceleration vectors. Editable worksheet, 29-slide lesson deck, teacher key, worked solutions and questions-only assessment, supplied as self-contained HTML plus colour and black-and-white PDFs.
-Acceleration as the rate of change of velocity.
-Average versus instantaneous acceleration.
-Uniform and non-uniform acceleration.
** Tool 3: Mathematics.**
- Determine rates of change (practised).
- Apply and use SI prefixes and units
- Draw and label vectors including magnitude, point of application and direction (practised).
- Student Worksheet (10 pages): structured exposition, guided questions and fill-in blanks with the answers stripped; fully editable self-contained HTML plus colour and B&W PDF.
- Teacher Key (17 pages): the complete worksheet with every answer, solution and marking point filled in; colour and B&W PDF.
- Solutions (10 pages): worked solutions with every step shown and units carried throughout; colour and B&W PDF.
- Assessment (7 pages): a questions-only paper spanning all the lesson’s questions, IB mark allocations shown, ready for a timed block or homework; colour and B&W PDF.
- Lesson deck (29 slides): choreographed to the worksheet, with staged reveals for the definitions, the worked solutions and the exit-ticket questions; self-contained HTML plus colour and B&W PDF.
Written for the IB DP Physics guide (first assessment 2025), Topic A.1 (Kinematics), at both Standard and Higher Level. The pack teaches three of the topic’s understandings, on the acceleration side: acceleration as the rate of change of velocity, the difference between instantaneous and average acceleration and how to determine them, and motion with uniform and non-uniform acceleration. It deliberately stops short of the suvat equations of motion and the graphical treatment of motion, which are left to the follow-on packs, so the lesson stays exactly on its declared scope. SI units, IB notation and IB command terms are used throughout.
The worksheet and deck are self-contained HTML files: they open in any modern browser with nothing to install, and the worksheet is fully editable, so every question and number can be adapted to your class. Suitable for ages 16–19 as a first-teaching lesson, cover lesson, homework or revision.
