My motivation as a teaching artist, is to always embrace culture and record the human condition and spaces we inhabit, through inanimate surroundings and mundane and weathered subject matter. This artwork depicts a significant historic landmark, 'The Old Parliamentary House,' of Trinidad and Tobago. This is part of my collective "Uptown & Downtown Heritage" series, which focuses on the city's built environment in the Capital, Port of Spain. The painting was shortlisted in 2014, by the Royal Academy of the Arts, for their distinguished Summer Exhibition, which takes place every year.I was thinking that it might be a great idea to share this watercolour and oil-based series in the form of a small exhibition at a public landmark or school and address the pivotal role historic landmarks play in our communities. This presentation would also include a brief description of the artworks with a complementary lesson plan pamphlet, in which the school teachers may use in their classrooms, or the students can take home as a fun artist sketchbook exercise.
