All lessons have the same structure to support establishing routines and expectations. Individual whiteboards are suggested to support whole class feedback and formative assessment throughout learning. The PowerPoint for each lesson is animated ready for delivery and is also editable so that you can remove some of the work through elements if you prefer to model things live.

Starter = Do now activity of 4 retrieval questions. Each question has a second practice question if needed to reinforce retrieval practice. Full worked through solutions which can be omitted if you prefer to model solutions live.

Notes and worked examples following an “I do” then “we do” approach. Language is clear and unambiguous. Unnecessary visuals and words are avoided to support with cognitive load. Text is integrated into diagrams to avoid split attention. Full working is given but can be deleted if you prefer to model examples live. Solutions are broken down into small steps; some steps may be removed when class are able to follow working with greater ease.

Then independent practice questions with answers to reveal when ready. Separate worksheets of questions are provided for printed copies if preferred.
Each section of the lesson has the “I do”, “We do”, “Independent practice” cycle for learning.

Worksheets cover all independent practice as separate documents. Version 2 reduces the printing for each set.

Topics covered in this lesson are as follows:

  1. Review keywords for polygons including pentagon, hexagon and decagon
  2. Interior angle + Exterior Angles = 180° with questions using this alongside solving equations
  3. Sum of Exterior angles of any polygon = 360° with questions using this alongside solving equations
  4. Exterior angle of a regular polygon = 360°÷number of sides with questions applying this to find exterior angles of regular polygons
  5. Sum of interior angles = 180°×(number of sides-2) alongside questions applying use of triangles to demonstrate the angle sum of a polygon. Independent practice questions also include application of theorem to create and solve equations.

Student notes are included as a separate document with large text size to support visually impaired students and can be printed for sticking into student books to reduce the need for copying from the board. Summary notes are given at the end of the lesson for a review of learning.
