Support Year 10 students in developing their first GCSE artist study through an exploration of Anna Poulton’s work within a Natural Forms project.

This lesson PowerPoint guides students towards analysing artwork using the formal elements and developing a personal response linked to their chosen area of study. It encourages students to move beyond describing what they see, considering how an artist’s use of materials, techniques and visual qualities can inform their own ideas.

Students will:

Analyse Anna Poulton’s work using relevant art vocabulary.

Explore connections between the artist’s work and their own Natural Forms theme.

Develop an individual artistic response informed by their research.

Connect artist analysis with practical sketchbook development.

Designed for Year 10 GCSE Art and Design, particularly Fine Art, with a focus on AO1: developing ideas through contextual investigation, and opportunities to support AO2: exploring and experimenting.

Explicit guidance supports classroom teaching and helps students continue independently or catch up after an absence.

Format: PowerPoint presentation.
