Overview of Activities

I. 192 Print Task Cards

  1. The Probability Scale

32 Task Cards that require students to rate the likelihood of an event happening on a scale denoting ‘Impossible, Unlikely, Even Chance, Likely, and Certain’.
2. Probability Events With Dice

32 task cards targeting probability problems involving 1-2 dice.
3. Probability Events With Spinners

32 task cards featuring all possible outcomes with the colours on a spinner.
4. Probability Events With Playing Cards

32 task cards featuring all possible outcomes with a standard deck of playing cards.
5. Probability Events With Paint Can Colours

32 task cards featuring all possible outcomes with a given set and sets of coloured cans.

  1. Probability Mixed Problems

32 task cards targeting mixed problems relating to Theoretical and Experimental probability, coins, dice, playing cards, spinners, grids and tree diagrams.

II. Boom Decks - 112 Cards

33 Boom Digital Cards on the Language of Chance
34 Boom Digital Cards on Probability with a Standard Dice
45 Boom Digital Cards on Pobability with Playing Cards + Printable Answer Key included

Also Included
Recording Sheets for each Task Card pack.
Answer Sheets
Reference sheets of all 32 coloured task cards on a single sheet. Prints fine in black and white too. Students may glue this in their journals or attach it to the recording sheet for future reference. Especially helpful for students to refer to for correction.

Suggested Use
The activities are fairly simple, yet challenging and scaffold the acquisition of key skills, especially finding all possible outcomes using Grids and Tree Diagrams. The task cards may be placed at maths centres and used to further build and practise skills. They range in complexity and thus cater to differentiation. Needless to say, they are ideal for your early finishers.

Targeted Group
The activities best target students in years 4-8, although a portion of it can also be used for higher achievers in year 3.

Theoretical and Experimental Probability: Rolling a six-sided dice a given number of times. Tossing two coins a given number of times. Spinning a spinner a given number of times. Picking an M&M colour a given number of times. 3b. Experimental Probability: Dice roll to find the number of trials and relative frequency of the numbers rolled. Group experiment to toss a coin a given number of times and record the total heads, total tails, total outcomes, and relative frequencies of heads and tails (fractions and decimals) for each group. This is to prove the law of large numbers that indicate that as the number of trials increase, the relative frequencies tend to get closer to the expected value (0.5) of tossing a coin. 4.
