These slides and hand out are designed to support the delivery of the Component One topic of enterprise. They explain the meaning of enterprise and SMEs and show how entrepreneurs can spot opportunities in the market. They explain the role of the entrepreneur in creating, setting up, running and developing a business, and their financial and non-financial motives for becoming an entrepreneur. It then assesses the importance of entrepreneurs and SMEs to the economy and the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors, before concluding with a summary of why new businesses often fail and a brief evaluation of the various stakeholders who are affected by a business. The slides contain the Quick Fire Five questions, and also a practice essay (with suggested solutions). In addition to the main PowerPoint a PDF copy of the notes has been provided to assist with pupil hand outs.
