Dominoes games are ideal for German class, providing students with an opportunity to learn and practise language entirely independently, either alone, or collaboratively in pairs or small groups. Students challenge themselves and each other to create a time-sequence line, on the classroom floor or on a long(ish) table, by matching the times and clock faces. Half past the hour in German can be quite challenging for students initially, and they find the targeted practice really useful.

The games work well in various learning contexts, for example learn and practice during the introductory phase, refresh and revise throughout the school year and activities for sub / cover lessons. Playing in teams against a timer adds a popular competitive element, which students find really motivating.

The challenges can be easily identified by the corresponding number in the top left-hand corner of each individual domino. There is a certain amount of prep involved: printing, laminating and cutting out. Laminated dominoes are easier to manipulate and will remain in excellent condition for years, meaning you will be able to use them many times.

There are three games, each with a different level of challenge:

= Challenge 1: features a range of clock times 5 / 10 / 20 / 25 past and to the hour, time phrase first

= Challenge 2: features a range of clock times 5 / 10 / 20 / 25 past and to the hour, clock phrase first

= Challenge 3: features a range of clock times from o’clock, half past, quarter to and past, and 5 / 10 / 20 / 25 past and to the hour, clock face first
