Bring coding to life this Halloween with a fun printable adventure that develops algorithms, sequencing, debugging and problem solving skills.

Halloween Coding Adventure is a colourful and engaging computing activity pack designed to introduce and reinforce key coding concepts through an exciting Halloween themed challenge. Pupils help Wanda the Witch navigate a grid, collect magical artefacts and reach her cauldron while avoiding obstacles along the way.

Children use coding command cards including move forward, turn left, turn right and repeat to plan routes and create algorithms. The activities encourage pupils to think logically, sequence instructions carefully and consider how a character moves around a grid.

The resource includes a game board, character pieces, magical artefact pieces, obstacle pieces and printable coding command cards. Pupils can choose from Wanda the Witch, Shadow the Cat, Gus the Ghost and Victor the Vampire, adding extra fun and choice to the activity.

A series of progressively challenging tasks allows children to practise writing code and finding efficient routes. Challenges include collecting individual artefacts such as the potion bottle, crystal, spellbook and moonstone before progressing to harder tasks involving multiple artefacts and more complicated routes. There is also an opportunity for pupils to create their own challenge.

Dedicated algorithm activities give pupils opportunities to independently write sequences of commands for each challenge. Answer pages are included, making it easier for teachers to check solutions and allowing pupils to review their own work.

The pack also develops debugging skills. Children identify errors in existing code, fix incorrect instructions, complete missing sections of code, improve inefficient algorithms, spot multiple mistakes and write their own code. These activities encourage pupils to understand that algorithms can be tested, corrected and improved.

Teacher guidance is included with curriculum links for England, Scotland and Wales, alongside learning intentions, key vocabulary, a suggested teaching sequence, assessment opportunities, differentiation ideas, extension activities and suggested next steps.

This resource is ideal for primary computing lessons, Halloween classroom activities, coding practice, computational thinking, problem solving, independent learning and paired work. The combination of visual puzzles, practical command cards and written coding challenges gives children an enjoyable and accessible way to develop important computing skills while completing a magical Halloween adventure.
