The ten phrases for hobbies are:
• dibujar – to draw
• escuchar música – to listen to music
• tocar la guitarra – to play the guitar
• ver la televisión – to watch television
• jugar a videojuegos – to play video games
• jugar al fútbol – to play football
• jugar al baloncesto – to play basketball
• tocar el piano – to play the piano
• leer – to read

The slides also include translations and guidance on how to pronounce the words in Spanish for non specialist teachers.

The six activities are:

  1. Matching - students match the words to the pictures.
  2. Picture splat - teacher says the target vocabulary and two students compete to be the first to splat the picture.
  3. What’s missing - numbers disappear from the slide and students say what has disappeared
  4. Quick flash - pictures are displayed momentarily. Students put their hand up and say what the picture is. Click again and the picture appears. Click a third time and the word in Spanish appears.
  5. Blockbusters – students complete to say the target vocabulary to cross from one side of the board to another.
  6. Board Game – can be printed off for group/pair work. Students throw the dice to move along the spaces. When they land on a ‘casilla’ (square), students say the target language.

Each game includes instructions and key phrases the teacher can use in Spanish.

The PowerPoint can be used repeatedly over a half term to teach and practice key vocabulary.
