Hurricanes – Differentiated Reading Comprehension Pack (Years 4–7)
This engaging pack includes two non-fiction texts about hurricanes, written at different reading levels to support learners across Years 4 to 7.
Pupils will learn how hurricanes form, where they occur, how they are measured, and the dangers they bring—such as storm surges, strong winds, and flooding. The texts also explain how scientists predict hurricane paths and how naming systems work.
Two Reading Levels
- Lower Level (780L–890L) – shorter sentences, simpler language, ideal for younger readers, EAL pupils, or lower-literacy groups.
- Higher Level (940L–1070L) – more complex sentence structure and technical vocabulary for confident or older readers.
Both texts cover the same core content, allowing easy differentiation without changing the learning focus.
