Commence the lesson sharing the story of the ‘little house with no doors or windows but with a star inside’. If you Google the story you will find plenty of versions on the internet.
In this investigation each student is given one half of an apple and a ruler.
The students complete the following tasks about the apple

   leaf
   stem
   core
   flesh
   skin
   seed
2. My apple has _____________ seeds.
3. My apple is __________ high.
4. My apple is ____________wide.
5. Write two sentences describing your apple.
   Using our five senses to investigate an apple worksheet
   Explain to the students that we are going to investigate apples using our five senses.
   Give each student a half piece apple and assist them to use their five senses to investigate the apple. Ask students to think about what they are observing through their sense of smell and to record their responses on the worksheet.
   Continue with the remaining senses.

   This activity was about conducting our own investigation on how to stop an apple from turning brown. Firstly the students made their own prediction. Then they observed what happens when milk, lemon or water were placed on a slice of apple and recorded their findings on the worksheet.
