Another Dimension is the title of this unit of work that focuses on KS3 Graphics with a practical and kinaesthetic approach. There are three booklets in this premium resource for one reasonable price for higher, middle and lower ability students.
The focus of the booklet(s) is to develop basic technical drawing and modelling skills including isometric projection, 1 point and 2 point perspective and presentation techniques such as thick and thin lines, rendering, shading and tone.
I have tried to add an element of fun whilst trying to incorporate the fundamental skills that are required at GCSE by asking the students to design and model a toothbrush for an alien; encouraging creativity and innovation.
Students use play-doh to model their designs, photograph and then draw in isometric and annotate to explain their design using ACCESSFM.
My students really enjoyed the practical aspect of this unit and as they are so busy drawing I found it really easy to go around and provide verbal feedback, stamp their work and allow them time to respond which massively reduced the amount of marking I had to do at the end of the project. We ran it as a 12 hour project on a 6 week rotation system but it could easily be adapted to suit a variety of delivery approaches.
