This Let’s Learn About Words Starting with Vowels resource is designed for EYFS and KS1 children developing early reading, writing, speaking and listening and phonics skills.
The set introduces words beginning with the vowels a, e, i, o and u, including examples such as axe, ape, ear, egg, icicle, ill, up, upset, old and open. Children can trace the words under each picture, colour the black-and-white images, and use the colour versions for discussion, display or independent learning.
The differentiated writing sheets give children opportunities to copy words, write their own vowel words, practise forming vowel letters, and draw matching pictures.
The colour and black-and-white flashcards can be laminated and added to a writing corner with marker pens, or used for sorting, matching, pairs games, show and tell, and speaking and listening activities. This resource supports phonics awareness, vocabulary building, pencil control, handwriting, early spelling, confidence with initial sounds, and mark making.
