The following worksheets can be used to check understanding of some simple clay techniques for creating pattern on a small tile. Learning the techniques of slab, coil, carve or impress and making balls, along with learning how to apply could be done in approximately one hour (prior to using these worksheets) as long as some of the materials are prepared beforehand. The first worksheet (pg 2) would follow this lesson.

Page 3 is a copy of page 2 with some suggested answers. These answers could be used to create writing frames for less able pupils.

Page 4 provides some suggested words to help pupils. This list might be differentiated for different abilities.

Page 5 is a worksheet which would lead pupils in to thinking about how the techniques might be used when designing. It could also be used as work for a cover lesson. Page 6 is a homework task.
