I developed this recourse after having classes that struggled to understand how to make letters look ‘blocky’ as often seen in Graffiti letting styles. Students had not studied perspective which was inhibiting their progress. I developed this resource to help students develop their visual understanding of perspective while enjoying graffiti art skills. Students have to complete each letter in a 3D style. There are visual clues which are gradually reduced with each letter. Hopefully, this should enable students to build confidence and identify their progress by the end. An answers sheet is included. A simple extension for more able students is to colour or shade to emphasise the 3D style. They could also add cast shadows. This would make a good retrieval challenge or homework after a lesson in how to draw 3D lettering. 2 A5 worksheets per A4 page. I designed this Learning Journey after looking at several others which appeared random and disconnected in their design. I felt I needed something more methodical and structured to fit with other departmental areas of planning. This Learning Journey is designed for Art Staff use. The editable version can be altered into ‘kid-speak’ to use it for students and parents. It is designed to link with knowledge organisers, medium and long-term planning and lesson plans. Each project identifies the four main areas covered by each project: artistic influences, visual resources, skills mastery and final outcomes. The four project areas covered at KS3 link to the four assessment objectives at KS4. The subcategories for each project are selected from the Project Builder, also available in my TES shop. This is an editable PowerPoint. This is also available as a free PDF. The following worksheets can be used to check understanding of some simple clay techniques for creating pattern on a small tile. Learning the techniques of slab, coil, carve or impress and making balls, along with learning how to apply could be done in approximately one hour (prior to using these worksheets) as long as some of the materials are prepared beforehand. The first worksheet (pg 2) would follow this lesson. Page 3 is a copy of page 2 with some suggested answers. These answers could be used to create writing frames for less able pupils. Page 4 provides some suggested words to help pupils. This list might be differentiated for different abilities. Page 5 is a worksheet which would lead pupils in to thinking about how the techniques might be used when designing. It could also be used as work for a cover lesson. Page 6 is a homework task.

Students are guided, with scaffolded steps, to design their own retro Baubles. This worksheet includes some history of Baubles with a short literacy challenge. Students use their imaginations to create a wide variety of patterns designs. KS2 and 3. Perfect for students isolating. Two lesson work here. It can easily be adapted to one lesson. The scaffolded levels could also be used for differentiation. Editable resource.

Perfect for remote learning. Between 3 and 4 lessons work. 3 tasks. Students begin by making observational studies of eyes. This challenge is scaffolded . The next task looks at a different way of drawing, using the style of drawing to express meaning. Finally, students can choose between 2 tasks: either an observational study of Courbet’s self portrait, or to recreate it in photography and using themselves as the model. This worksheet is also available as a free PDF.

This resource includes 2 worksheets and provides activity for about 3 hours. It requires students to think as they would if they were brainstorming but in images rather than words. It will open up students imaginations to what could be, as well as learning how one idea connects to another, leading to an avalanche of possibilities. Students are challenged to create as many motifs as possible based on a circle. A few examples are provided to get started. The first worksheet can stand alone if necessary. The second worksheet then teaches students how to refine their areas and to imagine them as a repeat pattern. This project is ideal for cover or to supplement a design project. No prior knowledge is expected and no other resources are required. Challenges (key learning objectives) are specified to help students focus on what they should learn by the end of the project. WAGOLLs (What a good one looks like) are included to help students aspire to the highest standard. Best for KS3 although would make a perfect homework for KS4.

This worksheet turns a tough concept into something a lot easier. Perspective can be very confusing. We often ask students to draw bottles and cans. This worksheet breaks down how a cylinder appears from different angles, allowing students to practise in small steps before recreating such things as a Pop Art can. This is an editable word document.

All the help you will ever need to guide GCSE students in writing for their sketchbooks. Many students can find writing for art extremely challenging. This resource is 18 pages of explanations, exercises, tips and challenges to help students make rapid progress. There are extensive notes accompanying each slide with suggestions for the teacher on how each page might be used. When I have previously used this booklet I did it early in the GCSE course and spaced it out over a term as too much emphasis on writing can inevitably switch kids off. Some of the exercises can be done as homeworks or starter activities. I have produced this booklet as a PowerPoint to provide additional versatility in the way it might be used. For example, teachers may want to use it both as a booklet and presentation, and to add to the presentation examples of work which explain visually the ideas contained with in the booklet. Students work could be added to the presentation so the exercises are better contextualised. Feedback is very welcome.

Perfect for kids self-isolating or working from home. Enough work here for two lessons. Inspired by the work of Suzanne Saroff, this worksheet helps students understand the different reasons why artists distort their images. A short literacy task is included. The main task shows students how to recreate their own Susanne Saroff style photographs. This is great for students who have done a lot of drawing at home and need a change of media.

Kids love drawing Robots. I designed this worksheet to provide some basic skills and help with later design ideas.

With the increasing demands of lesson planning, I thought other art teachers might find these helpful and time saving. Please watch the video to get an idea of what this resource includes.
