Students will be able to recognize the impact and the rich cultural symbolism of Martin Luther King Jr’s. “I have a dream” speech by constructing a Gustav Klimt inspired mosaic world peace flower with multi-colored squares to represent unity amongst mankind and identifying their own dreams for the world. They will draw the earth on the center of the flower and on the inside self-portrait to represent that this is their personal dream that they will nurture and grow, just like a real flower for our precious earth. They will grasp the message that Martin Luther King Jr. delivered for all for his wish for a nation of peace and equality for all of society. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.
