Meaning change verbs preterit imperfect mini conversations (Spanish)

Part 1: For each infinitive, write the preterit and imperfect conjugations.

*Students will write all 6 preterit and imperfect conjugations for the following infinitives: saber, poder, querer, conocer, tener

*A template is provided to write the conjugations.

Part 2: Complete each mini conversation with the correct preterit or imperfect conjugation of the infinitive. Use the word bank provided.

*For each infinitive (saber, poder, no poder, querer, no querer, conocer, tener ), there is one mini conversation with 4 lines of dialogue. For each conversation (except conocer), students will write 2 preterit conjugations and 2 imperfect conjugations.

*For conocer, there are 8 lines of dialogue.

*The meaning of each infinitive in the preterit and imperfect tenses is provided.

Sample:

Preterit meaning: to find out (information)

Imperfect meaning: to know information / to know how to do something

Word bank: sabía / supe / sabías / supiste

Carlos: Marcos, ¿Qué ___________________ tú hacer de niño?

Marcos: Yo ___________________ nadar.

Carlos: ¿Qué ___________________ tú ayer?

Marcos: Yo ___________________ que hay un concierto grande este fin de semana.

Answer key is included on pages 5-8.

This practice can be used for classwork, homework, quiz / test, review, study guide, or entry /exit slip. Students can also do the mini coversations orally.
