A full lesson on distillation. Starts with a jungle challenge where pupils utilize knowledge of evaporation from the previous lesson to see how they could save themselves from deadly poison.
Pupils complete a gap-fill to have a definition of distillation in their books.
Then go into a demonstration of distillation. I did this with colored ink and drank the distilled water afterwards. Good point for lots of discussion and names of the equipment and the theory.
Lesson then involves a progress check which leads into a 6 mark question on distillation. My class started this and then completed as homework.
The WAGOLL was given to pupils beforehand and taken away during their writing. I often use a help desk with pages from the revision guide available as well if they need more support in their writing. Pupils read the WAGOLL and as a class, we recorded 6 success criteria that we thought made this answer a 'mastered' level piece.
