Collective memory. Teamwork. Coloured version is placed somewhere the class can't see but is accessibe. In groups, the children have to copy the grid- but only one child from the group can look at the coloured version at a time!
The groups are told that they have x minutes to copy as much of the picture as possible, but only 1 person from each group can be looking at the picture at the time. Each square doesn&'t have to be coloured completely, but you need to be able to see which colour they think it is.

A powerpoint created for use with my year 5 literacy set. It outlines the three types of sentences and explains how to use a subordinate clause in the middle of a main clause. It also include examples at the end for the children to identify the clauses.
A set of sentences for children to add in subordinate clauses. I printed them to A3 and got the children to cut them up and add in a subordinate clause on a coloured piece of paper.
This scheme takes the group step by step through the stages of how to write a story. It is adapted from the government initiative 'Improving Childrens Writing' getting children from level 3 to level 4. I have changed it a little, so that it is also suitable for level 2 and 3 as well. Some resources you will have to get from the government published folder 'improving childrens writing'.
