I like this planning as its very visual.

The famous parable.

Some nice print outs.

Learning objectives

To know and understand the importance of forgiveness.

To realise that to forgive someone is not always an easy thing to do.

Success criteria
I know the story of the unforgiving servant.
I understand that through his parables, Jesus was able to teach people about the love and forgiveness of God and bring about change in their lives.
I can say how this affects my life.

Introduction-

What is a parable? We are going to look at the parable of the unforgiving servant today. What do you think the message might be about today?

Read the parable of the unforgiving servant. Discuss key points, words and write these on the white board. Draw out the words – forgive, mercy, compassion. Who can tell me who the main characters are? Can we think of words to describe them? List these on the board. What happens in the story? Talk to your talk partner and see if you can retell the story. As one pair to feed back.

Children to sit at tables

Mixed ability groups. On pieces of card write down two important things they would tell someone about the story. Children will share their information to their tables. Were there lots of things the same? Did anyone think of something different?

Come back to the carpet. Look at the pictures on the IWB. Discuss what the characters might be feeling and thinking at each key point of the story. Talk to talk partners and then share back to class. Are these things a catholic/Christian would do? Why not? How did the first servant feel when he was forgiven? How would you feel if someone did not forgive you? How do you feel when you are forgiven?

What questions would you like to ask the unforgiving servant, the king and the second servant?
