Reading aloud, Photo description, Conversation & Role play – KS3 French Speaking Pack

A French speaking pack designed to help KS3 students build confidence with reading aloud, photo description, conversation questions and role play.

The pack introduces GCSE-style speaking formats in a lighter, more accessible way, with short tasks, clear scaffolding and plenty of support. Students practise speaking with familiar language before moving gradually towards more independent responses.

What’s included

• Reading aloud practice
Six short texts for students to annotate, practise and read aloud, each with a different pronunciation focus and a playful performance instruction.

• Photo description worksheet
A 2-page worksheet introducing useful language for describing photos, including people, actions, clothes and simple opinions.

• Photo description PowerPoint
A follow-on image-based speaking activity with 9 photos to describe. A supported version includes vocabulary prompts, while a challenge version removes the vocabulary list for more independent speaking.

• Y7 conversation practice
A 3-page scaffolded conversation sheet on personal information and café interaction, with familiar questions, support and surprise questions.

• Y8-9 conversation practice
A 3-page conversation sheet based on holidays, using past and future language as well as surprise questions.

• Role-play cards
Five role plays: three based on familiar KS3 topics and two more light-hearted role plays to increase engagement and make the format feel less intimidating. Vocab-supported and no-vocab versions are included.

• Teacher guidance
A short guidance document explaining the purpose of the pack, suggested teaching sequence, support routes and challenge options.

• Solutions and model answers included where relevant.

• Printable resources are supplied as PDF and editable PowerPoint files, with colour and black-and-white versions. Teacher guidance is supplied as PDF only.

Designed for KS3 French, the activities can be used as a full speaking lesson, a speaking carousel, pair work, starters, revision or as part of a confidence-building speaking week.

This is a flexible speaking pack with structured support to help students engage more willingly with the speaking skill and approach GCSE-style speaking tasks with more confidence.
