Help students understand why cities grow, why urbanisation happens at different speeds, and how to explain these changes using geographical evidence.
Where People Live introduces urbanisation and urban growth through clear explanations, data tasks and guided exam practice. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the main city example throughout the Towns and Cities unit, giving students a real place to apply their learning. Background information is included, so no prior knowledge of the city is needed.
What students will learn
- The difference between urbanisation and urban growth.
- How levels and rates of urbanisation vary around the world.
- Why urbanisation changes as countries develop.
- How natural increase and rural-urban migration contribute to city growth.
- How economic, social, environmental and political factors influence migration.
- How to interpret population data, describe graphs and develop geographical explanations.
