Help students explain how erosion, rock structure and slope processes create upper course river landforms.
Landforms of the Upper Course covers V-shaped valleys, interlocking spurs, rapids, waterfalls and gorges. A Niagara Falls classroom figure introduces the idea of waterfall retreat, while sequenced diagrams help students build a complete explanation rather than learn an isolated list of features.
Learning includes
- Recognise the main landforms of a river’s upper course.
- Explain the development of V-shaped valleys and interlocking spurs.
- Relate resistant and less resistant rock to rapids and waterfalls.
- Sequence undercutting, collapse, waterfall retreat and gorge formation.
- Use a diagram and scale to support a geographical explanation.
