This lesson covers different multiplication methods: repeated addition, using a multiplication square, and ‘squared paper’ method (given a sum such as 3x4, on squared paper students count 3 squares across, 4 squares down, and then draw round the resulting rectangle; the number of squares they outline is the answer). It then links this method to area and volume. There is a slide at the end that covers long multiplication (two methods) for E3/L1 students.

This is one of a bundle of 11 Functional Skills Maths Number lessons I have on TES.

All lessons are mapped to the Adult Numeracy Core Curriculum. They cover Entry 1-Entry 3, with some Level 1 skills. I had few L1 students when I planned these, and taught the parts of the L1 curriculum not covered by these lessons as extension tasks with individual students.

You can get individual worksheets and powerpoints on my page for free.

Alternatively, you can buy the bundle of all 11 lessons (with worksheets and powerpoints) for only £10.
