Celebrate national Polish heritage month during the month of October by making"wycinanki"-'paper-cut design corn poppy flowers (the national flower of Poland) with your students. They will also learn about using the design element of symmetry to create balance, harmony, and order in their artwork just like the traditional wycinanki that was first started in the 1800’s by Polish peasants to decorate their houses. They will also incorporate a layering process to make a more intricate design and to practice their fine motor skills. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.
