Where Are the Animals? – Prepositions of Place is a resource for EYFS and KS1 children to practise reading and understanding prepositions of place.
The resource includes 10 worksheets, each featuring a different animal: a pig, mouse, cow, cat, dog, rabbit, tortoise, squirrel, bird and snake.
On each worksheet, the animal is shown in six different positions using the prepositions next to, inside, on top of, behind, under and in between.
Children read a sentence, such as “The dog is under the box,” and match it to the correct picture. They can also colour in the pictures, making the activity ideal for reinforcing vocabulary in an enjoyable way.
A coloured version of the dog worksheet is included as an example for children to follow.
For an additional hands-on activity, each worksheet can be cut into six individual cards, laminated and mixed up. Children can then sort the cards into sets, for example finding all the animals that are inside the boxes.
This resource is ideal for literacy, EAL, speech and language work, continuous provision, small-group activities and independent learning.
