As a" jobbing" teacher of English I KNOW what my students need to improve their literacy skills, comprehend what is required of them as regards reading criteria and what will inspire them to write to describe, argue or to help forge a narrative...and this knowledge is distilled into my resources! The photo-slides, model paragraphs, sentence stems, along with planning ideas, all compliment each other and as a jobbing teacher of English I can return to the resources time and time again...

As we know writing to describe can be tricky for some students, however one way in fro me was to get my students to describe one of their favourite meals. (Apart from the student that wrote himself into a corner writing about hash browns.) Some rather obvious images and some less obvious ones so the students gain inspiration to describe their favourite meal. Powerpoint contains a number of photographic slides, a starter, criteria, discussion points for oral work, plenty of model paragraphs, ideas for planning and stem sentences to encourage your students to write: with fire and skill! Resource could be employed over two lessons to ensure that your yr.9s and KS 4 students get to grips with capturing that moment...descriptively. Of course we all have one eye on the GCSE criteria and this presentation will help your students to achieve. Worked a treat with both my bottom set (why does everyone insist on calling them that?) and my more able KS3 students - I've included challenging and urbane language - to encourage my students to experiment with a more sophisticated language. (See what I did there Maggi?)

I thoroughly enjoyed the research for this presentation but please don't judge me on my eating habits!
