This complete Year 7 Spanish PowerPoint lesson builds on basic pet vocabulary and teaches pupils how to describe their pets using colours and adjective agreement rules. It is a full-hour, ready-to-teach PPT lesson that works equally well for Spanish specialists and as cover work for non-specialist teachers, thanks to clear slide-by-slide structure, embedded instructions and answer slides throughout.
The lesson opens with a retrieval starter recycling the pets and articles from the previous lesson, followed by a self-assessment answers slide so pupils can mark their own work in purple pen. A sentence-builder reference then introduces the core colour and size adjectives (rojo, azul, verde, marron, negro, blanco, grande, pequeno) alongside reminders of masculine and feminine forms.
The central teaching sequence is a Spot the Pattern activity on agreement rules, where pupils work out for themselves how adjective endings change depending on the gender of the noun, with clear examples for -o/-a, -e and consonant endings. This is followed by mini-whiteboards practice, a Tres en Raya noughts-and-crosses speaking game for pairs, and a differentiated support slide with extra scaffolding for weaker learners.
A structured peer assessment activity lets pupils mark their partner’s work against a clear success criteria list, and the lesson ends with an exit-ticket plenary for quick formative assessment.
The entire PowerPoint is fully editable so you can adapt vocabulary, timings and scaffolding for your own class. Suitable for mixed-ability Year 7 classes and easy to leave for a non-specialist cover teacher.
