A targeted Year 1 maths intervention for children who lose the counting sequence when starting from an unfamiliar number, counting backwards or crossing a multiple of ten. A quick baseline identifies the gap and routes the child to the right 10-minute session — so you’re not just giving them more counting practice.

Counting to 100 is part of the Piece Together 10-Minute Maths Catch-Up series. It is designed to be picked up and delivered by a teacher or TA with minimal preparation, with a short baseline assessment showing exactly where to begin.

The six sessions develop:

counting forwards across a ten

starting from any given number to 100
flexible, independent counting and explanation

Children move from concrete and visual representations towards increasingly mental understanding, with explicit links between quantity, numerals, tens and ones, number tracks and the hundred square.
