Handwriting and spelling practice in one book, built on the exact Year 3 and 4 statutory word list from the national curriculum in England (English Appendix 1). Every one of the 100 entries is included and written out in full, so accident/accidentally, busy/business, eight/eighth, though/although and woman/women each become two words to practise (109 words in total).

What is inside (51 A4 pages):

  • A gentle start for new Year 3: warm-up letters a-z in 7 small families of similar shapes (round letters, tall letters, down-and-over letters and so on), each with a numbered start point and a direction arrow.
  • 5 joins pages: up to a small letter, up to a tall letter, across from o, r, v and w to a small letter and to a tall letter, and letters with tails.
  • All the statutory words, 5 per page: trace the word, trace a paler copy, then cover it and write it from memory on the line below (look, say, cover, write, check).
  • 60 short sentences to trace and copy. Every word on the list appears in at least one sentence, so children practise it in context.
  • A progress tracker with two circles per word (traced / can write it from memory).
  • A how-to page with teacher notes and contents.

Made for the photocopier:
Every tracing grey, dotted line and guide line is darker than mid grey. We tested every page as a 1-bit black-and-white copy (the harshest photocopier setting): nothing a child needs disappears. Print on A4, black and white is fine.

Clear four-line guides: the top line, a dashed midline, the baseline and a dotted line for tails, so children can see where every letter sits.

Letter style: a clear, fully joined style with exit flicks. Letter shapes vary between schools, so please download the FREE sample (a warm-up page, a joins page, 10 Year 3/4 words and 10 Year 5/6 words) first and check it matches the style you teach.

Good for: Year 3 and Year 4 handwriting lessons, spelling homework, early-morning work, interventions and home practice.
