**A ready-to-teach Year 6 reasoning lesson focused on number properties, including multiples, primes, odd and even numbers and explaining mathematical conclusions in KS2 maths.

This lesson develops pupils’ ability to justify their thinking, prove statements and apply number facts to challenging reasoning problems.**

This Year 6 maths lesson focuses on using properties of numbers to solve reasoning and problem-solving questions.

Pupils explore relationships between numbers, including odd and even numbers, multiples, factors, prime numbers and square numbers. They are challenged to explain whether statements are true or false, justify their answers and use mathematical evidence to support their reasoning.

The lesson includes a range of problem types, including sorting numbers using given criteria, finding numbers that meet multiple conditions and exploring expressions involving unknown values.

Teachers can use the included Smart Notebook input slides to model strategies clearly and demonstrate how to explain mathematical reasoning before independent practice.

Pupils then complete a differentiated independent activity designed to support all learners while still providing appropriate challenge. The tasks develop confidence with number properties, logical thinking and SATS-style reasoning questions.

This resource is ideal for Year 6 number lessons, KS2 reasoning practice, SATS revision, or targeted intervention sessions.
