Year 6 RE 'Is Christianity still strong after 2000 years?' based on Discovery

This is a whole unit of work based on the Discovery unit, ‘Is Christianity still strong after 2000 years?’ for Year 6 which gets children to come to their own conclusions each week. A thought provoking unit for Year 6 pupils and provides them with some great opportunities to think for themselves and develop their own opinions - and justify them.

Each lesson covers the following:
Lesson 1: Who is influential in our lives and why?
Lesson 2: Do festivals and symbols show that Christianity is still a strong religion today?
Lesson 3: If Christianity is motivating people to do good in the world, does this show it is still a strong religion?
Lesson 4: If some countries persecute/torture/imprison people for being Christians, does this show that they are fearful of Christianity and therefore that it is seen as a strong religion today?
Lesson 5: Where else in British society do you see the influence of Christianity and is it still a strong religion 2000 years after Jesus was on earth?

*I always plan for 5 lessons to ensure there is a lesson spare in a 6 week unit to explore one further or spend some time coming back to something the children did not fully understand - or to complete tasks. It allows for a lesson to go over two sessions, if required, in greater depth.
