Year 6 RE Unit: Do Christmas traditions help Christians remember who Jesus was? based on Discovery

The over-arching key learning questions is: 'Do Christmas celebrations and traditions help Christians understand who Jesus was and why he was born?

This is a great unit that helps children to understand the difference between traditions and religion and how they are intertwined and have evolved over time.

In this Y6 Discovery Education RE unit there are 5 lessons planned and prepared with all worksheets, planning and documents required in both Word and PDF format.

• Lesson 1: What events are celebrated in different ways?
• Lesson 2: To know how Christmas celebrations and traditions help Christians understand who Jesus was and why he was born.
• Lesson 3: To understand incarnation.
• Lesson 4: Which tradition or celebration can help Christians understand Jesus as the Incarnation of God?
• Lesson 5: To know that Christians believe that Jesus had come to give His good news to everyone.

*I always plan for 5 lessons to ensure there is a lesson spare in a 6 week unit to explore one further or spend some time coming back to something the children did not fully understand - or to complete tasks. It allows for a lesson to go over two sessions, if required, in greater depth.
