Jollyphonics

Keywords: Pronunciation, Phonics, Sounds of German. This lesson can be the first lesson for new learners of German (either KS2 or KS3). It blends visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning strategies to embed the key sounds of German so that learners can apply this knowledge straightaway to new language they encounter. They develop autonomy and confidence quickly with this approach. Look out for the other lessons in this term's work. There are 33 PowerPoint lesson resources in this series that offer progression and generate high levels of motivation. Author: Leigh McClelland, AST, Comberton Village College

German Pronunciation Lesson

German Pronunciation Lesson

This is a resource that I originally made to help my Year 11 with their pronunciation for one of their upcoming speaking assessments. It features many of the main commonly mispronounced sounds, with various example words. It the builds up to a slide with a mixture of words and sounds, culminating in some really long words, just for fun!As a bonus, I have left in the last activity which was to help my class memorise a paragraph, something which, obviously, we are moving away from again, but still might be useful (it seemed a shame to delete it anyway!)

Jollyphonics - Pronunciation practice

Jollyphonics - Pronunciation practice

Keywords: Pronunciation, Phonics, Sounds of German This is the second lesson in this series of lessons written by Leigh McClelland, AST Comberton Village College. NB: This approach to phonics relies heavily on the use of gestures (a mime for each word/sound) - these gestures can be used extensively in future lessons to make the sound/written relationships crystal clear for learners and help them make the links between these iconic words they've learnt and all the new language they encounter.

GERMAN PHONICS (1) - RHYMING CARDS & DOMINOES

GERMAN PHONICS (1) - RHYMING CARDS & DOMINOES

PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING AWARENESS OF GERMAN PHONICS AND SOUNDS AND IMPROVING PRONUNCIATION!NEWLY-REVISED AND UPDATED RESOURCE COMING SOON!GERMAN Rhyme Time Lively Learning Mini-pack, Sammlung EINS, features a set of game cards and dominoes to help students focus on how GERMAN sounds and looks. The games are perfect for both pronunciation practice and developing phonetic awareness and understanding. It doesn't matter if some of the words don't feature in your immediate or longer-term teaching and learning plan - the aim of the games is to encourage students engage happily with the sounds of GERMAN, and how these are represented in written form.I've suggested a range of games to play with the game cards, and included a question card template to enable students to apply their word/sound recall very practically as they create cards for each other - either from the existing 99 words, or using ones they newly discover for themselves. There is a full reference list which students find very useful as a learning support resource, and which also doubles as a handy whole-group pronunciation practice resource. You can show the plain, editable presentation either before or after students play the games/dominoes, and this is also really useful for some whole-group pronunciation practice, as well as discussion about the 'look', the 'sound' and the spelling framework of GERMAN. The words appear in a different order in the dominoes than they appear in the reference list, and are all in pairs/trios, which really encourages students to focus on the sounds and written representation of GERMAN.I've described the resource as suitable for Years 7-12, but it really does depend on when your students began German, the stage they are currently working - and aspiring to. Play GERMAN Rhyme Time in 10 or 15-minute ‘chunks’ on a regular basis across the school year. Students can work alone, in pairs or in small groups. Against a timer works well - can students beat their own time record? GERMAN Rhyme Time is an ideal activity for carousel learning, for a consistent focus on pronunciation, as well as prior to speaking examinations, and particularly useful for the KS4-KS5 transition period too.The resource consists of 4 individual files: 3 non-editable pdf files (the game cards, the dominoes and the reference list) and a plain, editable presentation - the other files you can see are preview images to give you an idea of what the resource looks like. Please read the Terms of Use carefully - the resource is copyright, and for single-classroom use only. VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß!

This is a game loosely based on the gameshow classic 'Jeopardy'.At first, students have to form groups. If done so correctly, th More…e according number of points will go to this group. The words feature distinctive German sounds, especially those difficult for English learners of German, as well as tounge twisters and commonly mispronounced words. This is an easier version of the original, designed for Years 7 and 8.
