Column Writing - English Language A level

Column Writing - English Language A level

Column writing - opinion writing This resource is for several lessons, depending on how much time you want to spend on it. There is a presentation helping to teach column writing techniques There is a 12-page word document that is best printed as a A3 booklet (page 11 is empty for notes or you are welcome to add something - just remember, page numbers need to be 4 or its multiples) The booklet is a collection of columns written about this kind of writing by experts - students can read them and discuss in small groups and make notes for themselves. They should then use the knowledge of these techniques and see how they are used in certain pieces - I have not included those it is best you choose them so they are relevant. I asked students to choose one of the quotes about good manners and etiquette to use as base for a column. - I like the topic of good manners and etiquette, we had a great discussion on the topic. There is a PPT with some images that I used in lessons

The monster-sized Richard III bundle!

The monster-sized Richard III bundle!

This bundle has a lot of material to help you get your students enthused about Shakespeare's best known villain. It contains three PowerPoints which introduce and contextualise the history of Richard III, explore his use of language, introduce new linguistic techniques and finally leads students up to writing a full essay on his use of language to control others. Also included in the bundle is a great introduction to Shakespeare slideshow which, ideally, starts off the topic, and a handy guide to Shakespearean grammar. Finally, I include the worksheet for a Shakespearean insults tournament, which the kids love as Richard has so many opponents they can script for. This last task is great value as it works well with lots of plays besides this one.

KS4 B.2 Animal and Plant Cells

KS4 B.2 Animal and Plant Cells

Hope you enjoy my resources, here’s a link to my shop area if you want more. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/matthewharman777. More importantly though, be weird, be funny, be gross, have fun, play, stick to your routines and find that little spark of madness we all have and electrocute the class with it! My style of teaching isn’t for everyone, I’m a dyslexic teacher who’s heard it all, my lessons are all catered towards accessibility (because if they were not I’d never be able to read them myself). Everything is short sharp and to the point, I don’t believe in endless writing, reams of printing, spoon feeding diagrams or pointless activities. Every minute matters! Be sure to check out all my other resources, as a personal goal I intend to share all my resources at least once because hey, the government isn’t going to make it easier and we both know you are reading this way outside of your work hours. Enjoy, comment or rate if you can, but most of all hang in there, they need you way more than you realise!
