Used with year 9 and 10 classes (high ability) studying the new GCSE Biology course. Used with high ability year 8 class, following a lesson on sexual and asexual reproduction. I chose to laminate the info sheets for use with several groups and to save future spending on photocopying! Would work really well in a school with iPads/class IT access so they could do their own research or as an extension find out about another animal.

Used with high ability year 10 group - an activity to test comprehension and understanding from previous lesson on Insulin and diabetes. Could support less able pupils through accompanied use of a textbook.

Used with a high ability year 10 class. - case study sheets (end of ppt) printed out in sets for each table, to allow students to answer the questions on the ppt.

Lesson used to introduce respiration. Includes practical with yeast, leads to conclusion that respiration requires glucose.

Used with very mixed ability year 9 group over several lessons, in a school where pupils have access to iPads for research, etc.

Used with a high ability year 10 class, in a lesson about the structure and function of the brain. To get them used to interpreting and analysing information, and to link NS structure to nature of the condition.

Used with a high ability year 9 class. Practical - skittles in a petri dish, measuring time taken for pigment to reach the centre. Done with tap water, and hot water to investigate factors affecting diffusion. Summary sheet bought from another Tes author - a gap fill on factors affecting diffusion.

Powerpoint and Comprehension activity used with a high ability year 11 class.

Powerpoint used with able year 12 class, cover monosaccharides, disacchardies and polysaccharides.

Used with high ability year 9 class: - Scavenger hunt Q sheet - I printed and laminated answers, and spread these around the room. Pupils used this information to answer the questions. - Correct the mistakes passage on aerobic and anaerobic respiration - including scientific and SPaG errors, for pupils to correct. Answer sheet inc.

Used with a high ability year 9 class, following lessons on diffusion and osmosis. You may need to save gif of man rolling down hill (link to diffusion) and have used the font grilled cheese (may need reformatting if you don't have the font installed)

Used as part of the AQA transition course with a year 8 class, but could be adapted and used with older or younger learners.

Designed for high ability year 8s - in small groups, pupils use the provided information to plan a mini 'lesson' on their allocated deficiency. One pupils stays at their station to teach others - the rest move around the room, learning about the other deficiencies. They then return to their group, and teach their presenter about what they have learnt. Move on to look at BMIs, with some celeb data. Pupils are prompted to consider how this may not be a reliable measure of health. e.g. rugby player categorised as obese.

Short intro with PowerPoint presentation. Students given SOLO sheet to work through, with support from new AQA textbook. Enables pupils to develop their understanding at their appropriate level of learning, meaning some will progress through the sheet further than others.

Used with high ability year 10 class. Work through SOLO levels of understanding. Accompanied by AQA textbook, but any would do/could be shown in lesson with students later demonstrating their understanding.

Used with a high ability year 10 group, could be amended for use with different sets.

Used with a high ability year 9 class to introduce osmosis. - I use the font grilled cheese, which I have downloaded onto my computer. You may need to reformat the font if you have not got this downloaded yourself.

Comprehension activity to cover key areas of conservation including legislation (CITEs, SSSIs), seed banks and national parks. Loop activity which I ran as a group competition.

I have compiled this document using the AQA AS syllabus, for my year 12 classes to use to focus their revision over the Easter holiday.
