A checklist for the Year 2 spelling assessment. This can be used to assess reading and spelling of the common exception words for Year 2. It is a word document so it is easily edited.
Reading Targets linked to PM benchmark book bands
A list of reading targets linked to the coloured book bands from stage 1/pink to stage 11/lime. Useful for termly target setting or end of year report targets. Targets are divided into the different bands and there are several per coloured band.

Non-Chronological Report/Information Text on Dragons with task letter from Dragon Hunters
A non-chronological report about a new mythical dragon called the Frost Dragon which can be used for Talk for Writing to learn the structure or annotated to mark the features. Also included is a letter from the Dragon Hunters Association asking the children to create their own reports about the Shrek Dragon. You can edit the letter to change the dragon you want them to write about and add your class name as the recipient.
I used this with Year 2 children and have included two differentiated writing templates to assist in the writing process.

How to use ellipsis
This powerpoint explains how to use ellipsis correctly in writing. It clearly states the different uses of an ellipsis with examples. It also provides some sentences for the children to explain how the ellipsis has been used in each case.

What is Pink? Classic Poetry English Planning Christina Rossetti
A week long unit on the classic poem What is Pink? by Christina Rossetti The unit helps children to understand classic poetry by introducing the poem in a way which they can easily understand. The children are asked to explore the theme of colour, read and discuss the poem as well as answer comprehension questions and then plan and write their own verses in a similar style.
All resources are included such as planning sheets, comprehension questions and sheets and templates for writing.
It could be easily adapted for Foundation Stage, Year 1 or Year 2.
Cursive Handwriting Sheets for Single Letter Formation
Cursive handwriting sheets for individual letter formation practise. Each sheet has large letters to trace and smaller ones to copy. All letters are cursive and there are variations for the different cursive formations such as open and closed letters and straight and curved letters. Just choose the ones your school uses.

Comprehension Text - A Child's Thought poem by RL Stevenson
A PowerPoint activity with some shared comprehension questions with a follow-up comprehension sheet of questions and answers about the poem. The questions are based around VIPERS (see Literacy Shed website).
This activity has been used with an able Year 2 class but could also be used for Year 3.
