Hi! Engaging, challenging and representative resources. I hope these save you a lot of time and your kids enjoy them as much as mine do. I' was an English teacher for twelve years and worked in a variety of schools including a chain of outstanding academies which I made resources for. I taught KS 3 - 5 until 2018 and have taught for the AQA, WJEC and CIE exam boards. I have taught SEN students, mixed ability classes, set groups and G&T.

Globalisation Webquest

A webquest created for my year 7s on a range of companies to demonstrate more positive and less positive examples of corporate responsibility (or lack of). Students worked in pairs or threes. I have a range of abilities so the links used are of a wide range including Youtube videos of short length for weaker students and articles from other sources for more able who can evaluate sources afterwards.

Our school provides students with a qualification in ICT in year 9 (ages 13 - 15) but students from year 7 and 8 practice these skills beforehand. I have attached the syllabus (available from Cambridge) here http://www.cie.org.uk/programmes-and-qualifications/cambridge-secondary-1/cambridge-ict-starters/ Teachers work these projects into normal school lessons taking perhaps 6 hours to practice before the final exam which is done in an hour and a half. The qualification is fairly straightforward and accessible. These resources are the ones I used to prepare students including vocabulary work and papers very similar to the final exam so they can access it independently. The actual qualification requires software such as Movie Maker, Paint and the ability to download free music and sound effects from the internet, though these resources provided are mostly for classroom use before going to the computer room. Students generally use their own phones to take photos for animation or video. This was done in class or for homework. I teach several subjects, so year 7 worked on a "growth mindset" animation for PSHE, year 8 on a Geography project on coastal processes and year 9 on a Drama video for the topic "Fear". The resources are exceptionally easy to adapt. After these lessons completed in the classroom, students will go to the computer room to practice editing and using the software using the practice assessment and then when ready, can try the final exam.

Real Estate Agent Assessment. Geography of Crime: Using ICT

This is a one-off lesson great for cover or a last minute lesson as everything you need (except the computers!) is provided. You will only need to print the family cards (1 page of A4 has 15 family cards) and save the article and email structure so as to be available for editing by students. The students take on the role of estate agents, searching for new homes for their particular family. I have tried to make sure the families are varied and representative. Most families want a house in a particular area with a low crime rate - these are for the average ability student. Some families have extra details to make the search more challenging. There is even a joke card for an extension activity: giving President Trump's family a less-than-salubrious new address. Students should work as independently as possible to get higher marks, so the most able students should have the cards for the UK and find their own suitable websites using keywords discussed in the starter. Middle ability students can have cards from the USA and use the article's suggested links. Everyone should produce a finished email and send it to the teacher for assessment within an hour to an hour and a half. It was really easy for my students to differentiate their work themselves. My students got really into this and loved researching their own addresses as well as the ones they were set and saw the real world use of Geographical data. It clearly demonstrates the usefulness of Geography as well as developing Literacy skills and ICT skills. Let me know how your students get on :)

Revision Song Writing Parodies

Hi! Song lyrics get stuck in our heads, so why not get students to use that to their advantage? This lesson has a guess the song starter using images. The first pair to work them all out get the first choice of song. There is a reminder of how to work out syllables to ensure students have the right number per line. I then included some specific revision topics for Geography, but obviously you can change those to suit the subject. One video didn't want to attach: https://youtu.be/pvdrN3GJFZo Enjoy! PS: Since the price increase I have attached the revision lyrics I made for my KS3 Geography lesson.

Quiz, quiz, trade is a great way to get kids asking and answering questions on Geography. This activity has some straightforward questions covering topics including globalisation, climate and weather, Antarctica, maps and directions. Answers provided. Cut out and go! After the students have quizzed each other and traded enough times, the PPT has a quiz related to those questions so you have a grade for your mark book.

Listening Quiz: ESL Podcasts on Brazil and the Amazon Rainforest

A great 20 minute activity for students to practice their listening skills. Makes a great introduction to learning about Brazil or to practice their English comprehension skills. You will need to download the 6 Minute English podcast on Brazil to go with these questions. Answers are provided and the students are asked to give top tips to improve their scores at the end. Ideas for top tips include using the correct units of measurement and changing the grammar of an answer to fit the question (i.e.: Portugal, not Portuguese for A3.) Enjoy!
