Lesson plan, Student’s worksheet with cloze procedure exercise and comprehension questions, Teacher’s answer sheet. An original and humorous poem based on an idea garnered from a documentary about Elvis Presley buying Cadillacs for random strangers, as well as friends. Cloze procedure is an excellent method for teaching poetry, as students have to consider the words they are choosing very carefully, and make sure they make complete sense. Students think about the vocabulary used much more thoughtfully after completing this type of activity. Questions include topics of alliteration, interpretation and use of repetition and words conveying vehemence to add emphasis. Students are also tasked with practising reading with intonation in order to creat a dramatic effect both individually and in pairs.
