This is a complete lesson on refraction that I prepared for a Y8 class.
Starter task refreshes reflection using a ray box and mirrors to guide light around an obstacle course. Introduce the idea of refractions followed by a practical investigation. PPT uses the idea of a car driving across mud to explain refraction. Key words are introduced and a DoodleScience clip gives some practical uses of refraction.
Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and HomeWork Sheet.

This is a complete lesson on potential and kinetic energy that I prepared for a Y9 class.
Starter activity using a roller coaster example to relate back to a previous lesson on gravitational potential energy. A PHET simulation is introduced (embedded into the PPT) to show the transfers between potential and kinetic energy occurring for a skateboarder. The importance of using the correct units is reinforced followed by some worked examples showing how to use the Ep and Ek equations in typical questions. There are then some exam style questions for students to attempt (unfortunately these are ExamPro and cannot be uploaded here)
Includes a PowerPoint and Lesson Plan.

This is a complete lesson on conduction that I prepared for a Y9 class.
Starter activity to think about what happens to a metal spoon in a cup of coffee. A demonstration of paper clips on a metal rod which is being heated by a bunsen burner follows. The whole class then models conduction physically with a human chain. A worksheet at
the end helps to reinforce the learning.
Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan, and Worksheet.

This is a set of three powerpoints covering some essential maths skills that I prepare for a Y10 tutee.
The three powerpoints cover 1. re-arranging equaions (using three different methods) using the the equations for GPE and KE as examples. 2. Equalities, >, >>, <, << 3. Y-Intercept and how to calculate it.
Includes three separate PowerPoints.

This is a complete lesson on energy stores and transfers that I prepared for a Y8 class.
Starter activity to describe energy in a sentence and then describe energy transfers taking place as a cyclist cycles up and down a hill. An overview of different energy store and different transfer methods. The main activity is an Energy Circus including dropping a beanbag, a radio, mass on a spring, climbing a ladder etc.
Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan, Circus Activity Instructions and Results sheets plus a Homework Sheet.

This is a complete lesson on measuring current and voltage that I prepared for a Y7 class. Covers an introduction to setting up circuits using smbol cards, “How does a lightbulb work?”, and settig up real circuits using ammeters and voltmeters.
Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and Circuit Symbol cards to print and cut out.

This is a complete lesson on colour filters that I prepared for a Y8 class.
Refreshes primary, secondary colours plus absorption and reflection from a previous lesson and then students experiment with various colour filters and record their observations. A PPT explanation and discussion attempts to explain what the filters are doing. A Worksheet is used to check pupils understanding of the ideas covered. Finally
the idea of 3D vision is introduced together with some video clips which students can watch with 3D glasses.
Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and Worksheet .

This is a complete lesson on impulse forces and car safety that I prepared for a Y10 class. Start off by reviewing momentum and conservation of momentum in collisions and then in explosions. A video on “Understanding Car Crashes” is then played and questions on the various safety features and how they work are then discussed in the group. This is then followed by an explanation of force and rate of change of momentum . A worksheet on car safety and momentum
is used to check group understanding.
Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and WorkSheet.

This is a complete lesson on colour that I prepared for a Y8 class.
Refreshes refraction from a previous lesson and then a prism dispersion demonstration. Students then make up their own mnemonics for the colours in the spectrum and then primary and secondary colours are then introduced followed by a discussion on reflection and absorption.
A Worksheet is used to check pupils understanding of the ideas covered.
Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan, Worksheet and HomeWork Sheet.

This is a complete lesson on wiring a plug and electrical safety that I prepared for a Y10 class. Start off by describing the main parts and safety features of a plug. A video on the Earth wire safety feature is also used. A worksheet “Fault Finding Plug” has to be completed successfully before students are then allowed to wire their own (demonstrator) plugs.
Includes a PowerPoint, Lesson Plan and WorkSheet.
