This resource includes 4 games boards with coloured background and 4 without background so you can save toner when printing. I’ve also included some alien cards which you can use to plays snap or splat games etc. simply ask the children to roll a die and then move their piece to the number rolled. if they can read the word then they land on it, if not they cannot. Great for small groups or 1:2:1 sessions. To increase the length of a game you could use die with only 3 numbers or join two boards together. I hope that your class enjoy playing these boards.

Hi, This resource is great for whole lessons. You can model writing a sustained piece and structure how to add depth and creativity to a paragraph/short/long piece of writing. I’ve played around with how I use this presentation, here are some suggestions, and if you find better ways then please share your good practice. 1. Print slides and allow children to use as prompts for writing about a stimulus. 2. Show children stimulus and then do some talk for writing, than ask them to write sentence/paragraph 1 and then share with class. Repeat process for all 6 sentence types. 3. There are three roll and name picture game boards that allow your children to create their own pseudonyms names for the aliens. Great practice for the Phonics Screening Check! Roll an alien name Boards 1 to 3 - vowel split digraphs a_e, e_e, i_e, o_e & u_e all with varied initial blends to start the word. Alien name race boards Board 1 -vowel split digraphs a_e, e_e, i_e, o_e & u_e Board 2 -vowel split digraphs a_e, e_e, i_e, o_e & u_e (easier version) Board 3 - vowel digraphs ai, ea, ie, ow, ue Board 4 - digraphs ar , au, ee, or & oe If the children role a six then they can choose their sound to use to create the alien name. EDITABLE VERSIONS INCLUDED **How to play: ** Roll the dice. When it lands on a number look for the sound designated to that number, ask the children to write it on whiteboard and soundout. If correct they can stay on that square of game board. Continue rolling and creating anmes for every alien they land on. For additional rules see rules attached to this resource. This resource structures persuasive writing for your whole class. I have used this resource for Year 3/4 but it can easily be adapted for year 5/6. In the past I have used this a whole lesson and written each sentence as a class to really create an in depth piece of writing. I would ask the children for their ideas and they would collaboratively come up with ideas and then write down after sharing them with whole class. I have also cut the sentence strips out and allowed my higher attaining pupils to play around with the structure. This resource allows the lowers a structure to follow and the opportunity to write without worrying about content and structure. This game is great for promoting vocabulary/terminology in my mixed R/1 class. This download includes 10 PDF documents with 4 pages (40 game boards in all). Each game board covers a range of sounds from phase 2-5 and set 2/3 RWI. This game is a great revision activity that is fun and allows children to show what they know as well as collaborate/play with other children. This can be used as a whole class activity / starter or with 1:1/group interventions. Great revision activity for the upcoming phonics screening test. No real preparation needed. Simply print, cut and use. To play who’s who the children need to pick a word and then ask other players questions to eliminate possible words (aliens). Alternatively you can laminate boards and just ask children to choose a alien (word) and ask children to sit in a group to play. I’ve been struggling to engage my Year 3 class into learning their tricky words so came up with this. When a child’s playing piece lands on the circle they must write word in a sentence. Hi, This Interactive white board activity allows your children to spot the odd sounding word out and play ‘Into the black hole’…a game that sees the child dragging the pseudonym (alien word) into the black hole and into oblivion. The real words stay in front of the black hole and the alien disappear behind the center of the hole. The game is accompanied by a worksheet that can be used in conjunction with the IWB or without. Each split digraph a_e , e_e, i_e , o_e and u_e have been split into three levels of difficulty and the middle ability has a copy with the sounds highlighted to further differentiate. The pupils simply roll die and then move car and say word they land on. These sounds are ideal to cover if you are working on phase 5 or set 3 RWI phoncis schemes. This can be used as a whole class activity / starter or with 1:1/group interventions. The interactive Smartboard game uses a die that only goes up to 3. This makes it a snappy but not too long a game. Children could play best out of three or you could use the game boards to set out a mini competition/tournament around the classroom. I use this resource in my class to remind my Year 3/4 children of my expectations during any writing task. They are great for quickly showing differentiation or just for reminding the children of what is expected of them . I love using the ‘check your writing’ bookmark as it gives the children a check list of what to look for! This resource includes: 3 differentiated writing book marks (ranging from Year 4 expected, Year 3/4 developing and E.O.Y 2 expectations for my lowers). 1 bookmark to remind how to use speech in writing. 1 bookmark to remind children of what to check in their writing. This takes a little prep to do but my children enjoyed the freedom of moving about to get the tokens and match them to the definition of the term. It is fully editable so please feel free to add/remove terminology or create your own version. This resource includes 2 worksheets in which the children must solve what term is what and then write an example. They must finally find the terminology token and stick in correct box of the sheet.
