The pack for 7-11s explores online identity by focusing on the importance of respect and reputation when navigating the digital world. Amongst the resources available are a lesson plan and an assembly, with accompanying script. These tackle different scenarios young people of this age may face online and explore how to represent their identity online in a safe and positive way. In 2005 Childnet produced the first Know IT All for Schools CD-ROM. This material on this CD-ROM was targeted at young people (12-18) and was distributed to all secondary schools in the UK through the generous support of Microsoft. Childnet consulted closely with young people and teachers in producing the resources and designed the content so it could be used either by a teacher in a whole class session or by pupils working on their own. The important safety information was presented in multi-media modules covering a wide range of issues.

Childnet - young people & social networking sites

(6)
A guide for parents, carers and teachers about social networking sites. Social networking sites are very popular with children - even those as young as 8 and 9. These sites allow children to be incredibly creative online, to express themselves using a whole range of different media and keep in touch with their friends. It's important to recognise that there are potential risks. This leaflet outlines ways parents and carers can engage with their children and young people to talk about social networking and how to deal with issues when they arise.
