2 weeks of maths activities home learning tasks for Nursery or Reception (Early Years). The focus is on Number (numeral) recognition and counting skills. There are a total of 18 activities that can easily be done at home split over two sheets. Children can choose to do 1 per day to complete but you could suggest more. Activities are practical using items children will have at home. There are key questions to guide parents delivering the activities at home. They will develop the skills to identify, describe and continue patterns, Differentiated cut and stick activity where children can then independently complete repeating patterns and also make their own. Children will practise the skills to identify, describe and continue patterns, The cutting also develops fine motor skills. The patterns have pictures missing both at the end and in the middle and the resources include patterns with 2 and 3 repeats.

A home learning sheet with instructions for parents about how to use advent calendars to improve early maths skills. There is also instructions for children to make their own advent calendar.

Frozen themed tens frame for use in early maths.

Number cards to 10 featuring Frozen characters. Cards show the numeral, numicon piece and the corresponding number of Frozen characters.

Blank coordinates grid. Used in Year 2.

Mud kitchen recipes based on the theme of Frozen. The children work out the addition sums to follow the recipe. Laminate and pin to the mud kitchen.

I taught this using the first 2 slides as an introduction and worked with the class to find out the answers. Then children completed the questions in speech bubbles (differentiated) by physically dividing up the the cakes between the Harry/Meghan/ the Queen / Prince William who were stuck on plastic plates. The numbers 0-20 on Autumn leaves. This resource can be printed out and laminated and cut into cards. The cards can be used for number activities such as matching quantities to the digit, or digit ordering. They can also be used for display. The numbers are on a photograph of a leaf which lends to a more neutral, natural aesthetic than illustrated/ drawn images. They would be perfect for use when learning about Autumn or whilst doing outdoor learning or forest school.

Space themed addition word problems for Reception or Year 1. There are a couple of examples on a power point which can be shown to the class and the children can work together to work out the answers. Animations make the word problem, and how to work out the answer visual. Then there are differentiated questions (answers below 10 and answers 10-20) to be printed and completed by the children with a self assessment area on them. At the end there is further ‘mastery’ type questions, which allow for discussion and are clearly explained using pictures to support. There is a mastery question to be printed and completed by the children also.

A resource to support addition and number work with a Valentines Day Love Heart Theme. Children will lay beads/items on the hearts to assist them to add two or three numbers. This resource includes 2 sheets for children to use to add either 2 or 3 numbers. Laminate or put in poly-pockets to allow children to write on it with a dry wipe pen.
